Systems Maintenance

Garpiel Group uses fixtures that are built to last and takes the utmost care in system installation. However, as with all outdoor systems, nature can take a toll. An annual or bi-annual review includes walking the property looking for system damage, full system testing, and a report of necessary repairs and system status. We will also perform a system check of the technology used to manage the schedule of your irrigation and/or lighting systems.

Some of the things Garpiel’s certified technicians look for:

• Damaged, worn out or burned out system parts
• Potential cracks in piping
• Cut or chewed wiring
• Adjustments or repositioning of heads
• Timing adjustments
• Sensor failures
• Sprinkler valve failures

Irrigation/Sprinkler Systems

Winterization is key to preventing unnecessary maintenance and increasing longevity for your in-ground irrigation system. This is not to be confused with general sprinkler maintenance, which typically involves the replacement of several worn-out/failed heads each spring.

Every few years, without regularity, there may be a larger issue that needs addressing, such as a non-functioning zone, rain sensor that needs to be replaced, or a leak near a connection point. These are all considered normal repairs not directly related to improper winterization.

Each spring, we receive calls from new clients requesting maintenance on their irrigation system. One of the questions we ask first is whether or not the system was winterized the previous fall and, if so, who performed the service. Our technicians utilize a standard procedure for each system winterization. This helps to eliminate any missed steps that might lead to expensive repairs in the spring. For best results, winterize your sprinkler system before Nov. 1.

Some typical issues we see in a system that was not properly winterized:

  • Cracks or damage to the brass or plastic backflow prevention system. Oftentimes, the copper and/or PVC is damaged as well.
  • Splits or cracks in the PVC/poly pipe throughout the buried lines. Splits/cracks could range from a fraction of an inch to several feet long.
  • Sprinkler heads with cracked outer sleeves, resulting from sitting water inside the base.

Landscape Lighting

Landscaping lighting is beautiful addition to any property but it also adds safety and security. If you’re unsure what repairs need to be done, we will be happy to review your lighting system and create a proposal.

Outdoor Technology

Technology today is truly amazing. You can open your garage, turn on and off lights, adjust the thermostat in your home, all while being miles or thousands of miles away from home. In the landscape business there is a similar blend of technology that has become very popular.

Several different leading landscaping lighting and irrigation companies have created “smart” controllers, which connect to the WiFi system within your home or business. This allows you to control your lighting or irrigation system from the comfort of your bed, or thousands of miles away, all from your smart phone or tablet. Additionally, it can allow Garpiel Group to access your system remotely to make adjustments to zone run times, perform basic troubleshooting, and turn the system on and off.
